17HMR

TL;DR: A fast, flat-shooting varmint round built on a necked-down .22 WMR case, loaded with 15.5 to 20 grain bullets for prairie dogs and other small varmints. 17 HMR does not interchange with 17 Mach 2 or 17 WSM, so check the barrel marking first. We do not ship ammunition to states that require a background check for ammo purchases.

17 HMR FAQ

Is 17 HMR the same as 17 Mach 2 or 17 WSM?

No. All three use .17 caliber bullets, but the cases are different sizes. Use only 17 HMR in a gun marked 17 HMR.

What does HMR stand for?

Hornady Magnum Rimfire. Hornady built it by necking the .22 WMR case down to hold a .17 caliber bullet.

Why does wind move a 17 HMR so much?

The bullets are light, usually 15.5 to 20 grains, so a crosswind pushes them more than heavier bullets. Shoot on calm days or hold into the wind at longer range.
