Pistol footprints
A pistol dot bolts to an optics-ready slide or an adapter plate, and the screw pattern has to match. Plates are in Red Dot Mounts.
| Footprint | Common on |
|---|---|
| RMR | Full-size and compact slides. Many Holosun 507C and 508T models use it. |
| RMSc | Slim carry pistols like the Sig P365 and Glock 43X MOS with a plate. |
| ACRO | Enclosed emitter dots on duty and carry pistols. |
| DeltaPoint Pro | Leupold dots and the plates cut for them. |
Open, enclosed, holographic or prism?
| Type | What to know |
|---|---|
| Open emitter | Smallest and lightest. Rain, dust or lint can block the emitter. |
| Enclosed emitter | Sealed against weather and debris. A little taller. |
| Holographic | EOTech style. Large window and a reticle that stays clear behind a magnifier. |
| Prism | Etched reticle that still shows with the battery dead. Helps shooters with astigmatism. |

Red Dots FAQ
Red or green dot?
Green tends to look brighter to the eye in daylight. Red usually gets more battery life. Both work well, so pick the one you see more clearly.
What MOA dot should I get?
A larger dot is faster to find up close. A smaller dot covers less of the target at distance. Many models offer a circle-dot reticle that gives you both.
Will my pistol take a red dot?
If the slide is optics-ready, yes, with the right plate. If it is not, look for a model-specific mount in Red Dot Mounts.
