Holsters & Gun Leather

TL;DR: Holsters for every way a handgun gets carried, plus the leather that goes with them: belt slides, paddles, shoulder and chest rigs, revolver holsters, mag pouches and shell carriers. Holsters built mainly for hiding a gun have their own section.

Find the right holster

Fit comes first. A holster is molded or cut for specific models, so the listing names the guns it fits and whether it is right or left hand. Then pick the carry position.

Belt slides and paddles ride outside the waistband. Paddles go on and off without unthreading a belt, and belt slides hold tighter. Shoulder and chest holsters keep a heavy revolver reachable while you are wearing a pack or sitting in a stand. Nylon is the budget option, leather is the classic, and Kydex is the easiest to reholster.

Holsters & Gun Leather FAQ

What does right hand or left hand mean on a holster?

A right hand holster is worn on your right side and drawn with your right hand. Order the hand you shoot with, not the hand you write with if those are different.

Paddle or belt slide?

A paddle clips over your waistband, so it goes on and off in seconds. A belt slide threads onto the belt and moves less when you draw. For all-day wear, most people prefer the belt slide.

How do I break in a leather holster?

New leather is tight on purpose. Unload the gun and work it in and out of the holster until the draw is smooth, and follow the maker's break-in instructions. Never force a loaded gun into a tight holster.

What holster works for a big revolver while hunting?

A chest or shoulder rig. Both keep the gun off your belt line, so a pack hip belt or tree stand harness does not get in the way. Chest and shoulder rigs are on this page, so filter the grid above by fit.
