Pack for a range day
A good range bag holds more than you think you need. The short list: eye and ear protection, ammo, magazines and a loader, targets and staples, a small cleaning kit, a basic tool for loose screws, and water. Hard cases protect optics and lock for travel. Soft cases are lighter and faster to grab. On a clays course, a shell pouch keeps loaded shells and empties apart so you are not digging for them between stations.
Brands here include Browning, Pelican and Beretta. Low on rounds? Handgun Ammunition and Rifle Ammunition are a click away.
Range Gear FAQ
What do I need for my first trip to the range?
Eye and ear protection, your gun in a case, the right ammunition, and targets if the range does not supply them. Many ranges ask first-timers to sit through a short safety briefing, so call ahead.
Hard case or soft case?
Hard cases protect scopes and survive travel. Soft cases are lighter and easier to carry from the truck to the bench. If you fly, airlines require firearms in checked bags to be unloaded and locked in a hard-sided case and declared at the counter.
How big should a range bag be?
Size it to the number of pistols and boxes of ammo you bring on a normal trip, then go one size up. Each listing gives the bag's outside dimensions.
