DA/SA, single action or DAO?
| Type | How it works |
|---|---|
| DA/SA | A long double action first pull, then light single action pulls after that. Usually has a decocker or safety. |
| Single action only | The hammer must be cocked, and the gun is carried with a manual safety on. |
| Double action only | Every pull is the same long stroke, with no single action mode. |
Brands like Beretta, CZ, Sig Sauer, HK, Tanfoglio and Bersa, with more added as new models come in.
Hammer Fired Pistol FAQ
What does a decocker do?
It safely lowers the hammer on a loaded chamber, so the next shot starts with the long double action pull.
Why do competition shooters like hammer guns?
Metal frames add weight that settles the gun between shots, and a light single action trigger helps with precise hits.
