What to check before you buy
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Thread pitch | Most 22 LR pistols and rifles use 1/2x28. Some pistols need a thread adapter first. |
| Caliber rating | 22 WMR, 17 HMR and 5.7 ratings vary from can to can. The product page lists what each one is rated for. |
| Take-down design | Rimfire ammo is dirty. A can that comes apart is far easier to keep running. |
| Material | Aluminum is lightest. Stainless steel and titanium put up with more cleaning and wear. |
Mounts, pistons and covers are in Suppressor Parts.

22 LR & Rimfire Suppressors FAQ
Can I shoot centerfire through a rimfire can?
Only if the maker rates it for that cartridge. Most rimfire cans are not built for centerfire pressure, and one 5.56 round can ruin them.
How often does a rimfire suppressor need cleaning?
More often than a centerfire can. Lead and wax build up fast with 22 LR, so plan on regular take-down cleaning and follow the maker's instructions on solvents and ultrasonic cleaners. Kits and solvents are in Suppressor Cleaning.
Does the ammo make a difference?
A big one. Subsonic 22 LR stays below the speed of sound, so the crack downrange goes away. High velocity loads are supersonic out of most rifle barrels. Shop 22 LR Ammo.
